Saint-Gilles The Hermit (also Egidius) is one of the fourteen Saints emergency helpers in the annals of the Roman Catholic Church. Nothing is known for certain about him. It would be a Occitan Eremite–monk he was born in 640. Athens and was given the name Ægidius. Later, according to the legend a hermit exists in Septimania, a Visigoth nearby provinces Narbonne. He is said to have founded a monastery in Saint-Gilles, a place west of Arles and south of Nîmes and died around 720 or 724. His tomb became an important pilgrimage site.
