This impressive painting made in the late 19th centurye it is based on a sculpture by Bernini. The sculpture is in the Cornaro family chapel in the Basilica of Santa Maria della Vittoria in Rome. This entire chapel is dedicated to the Spanish mystic Theresia of Avila (1515-1582), to whom, the story goes, an angel appeared. The angel pierces her heart with a Golden Arrow and leaves her- ’in fire and flame by God's love.
