Such Tabernacles originally functioned as a home or travel altar and were especially popular at the end of the 13th century and in the 14th century. The great mastery of the artist is shown above all by the observation that this object is made of one piece of ivory and he managed to free the group with Mary and child almost separately from the back wall.
